Everything, answered plainly.
Including the awkward ones: what a waitlist actually does with your credits, what happens if you cancel late, and what hoppir has not built yet. Studio questions are here too, further down. If something is not clear, that is on us: tell us and we will fix the wording.
Thirty-odd of them, in the order you meet them.
Membership & credits
What are credits?
Credits are how classes are priced on hoppir. A membership includes an allowance of them each month, and you spend that allowance at any partner studio. Sessions run from about 10 to 45 credits: recovery like a cold plunge at the bottom, reformer at the top, and most classes between 20 and 30. Each studio sets its own prices, so a peak slot can cost more than a quiet one. hoppir never adds a surge multiplier on top, and the exact cost is shown on the class before you book.
What happens to credits I don't use?
They roll over for one month. Anything left at the end of a month is still there through the next one, so a week away or a quiet month does not burn what your membership included. Your balance is capped at two months' worth, and credits are spent oldest first.
What if I use up my credits before the month ends?
Book the class anyway and pay for that one class by card or Apple Pay: same seat, same price, no wallet involved. Or start your next month now: your new credits arrive right away, your renewal date moves to today, and anything you hadn't used still rolls over for one month. Otherwise your next allowance arrives on your renewal date, as long as your membership is still set to renew and the payment goes through. If you run out most months and you're not on the biggest plan yet, moving up includes more credits at a lower rate per credit, and switching works the same way.
Can I start my next month early?
Yes, once a day at most. Run low and you can start your next month from your wallet or right in the booking sheet: you pay your plan price there and then, your new credits arrive right away, and your renewal date moves to today. Anything you hadn't used still rolls over for one month. If you still have most of this month's credits we'll ask you to use those first.
Can I change plan mid-month?
Yes, and it's the same button as starting your next month early. You pay the new plan's price there and then, its allowance arrives immediately, and your renewal date moves to today. Anything you hadn't used still rolls over for one month. There's no separate mid-month switch; this is it. Once a day at most, and if you're still sitting on most of this month's credits we'll ask you to use those first.
Do I have to take a membership?
No. You can book a single class and pay for it by card or Apple Pay, with no membership and no wallet. A membership works out cheaper per class and makes sense if you train most weeks; paying class by class is the simpler way in if you don't.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep your membership, and the credits it includes, until the end of the month you have already paid for. Nothing renews after that, there is no cancellation fee, and you can come back whenever you like, or just pay per class in the meantime.
What happens if my payment fails?
We tell you, and we try again: the next day, then two days after the first attempt, then three. Your existing balance is untouched the whole time, and no new credits arrive until one of those goes through. If none of them does we cancel the membership rather than keep charging at it, and you're welcome to start again whenever you like.
Do my credits transfer if I take a friend?
No. Your allowance is yours: credits can't be moved to another person or another wallet, and your check-in code is yours to use rather than to lend. Your friend can book the same class on their own hoppir, or pay for that one class without a membership at all.
I'm visiting Cape Town. Is there something for me?
Yes, and you don't need a membership for it. Book classes one at a time and pay for each by card or Apple Pay, at the same studios and the same seats a member gets. Nothing to cancel when you fly home.
Booking
What if the class is full?
Join the waitlist. It costs nothing and it gives you a place in the queue. If someone cancels more than 24 hours before the class, hoppir books that seat for the first person on the list who has the credits for it, automatically, with no offer to accept and no window to claim it in. The credits leave your wallet at that moment, and the class is at the top of Your classes the next time you open the app. Nothing buzzes your phone yet, so have a look before you set off. You can leave a waitlist any time before a seat frees up, and if your balance is short when one does we move past you and you keep your place. Waitlists run on credits only.
How far ahead can I book?
Two weeks. The day strip runs fourteen days out, which is further ahead than most studios publish their timetables, so a third week would mostly be empty. Everything runs on Cape Town time, whatever your phone is set to.
Can I book two classes on the same day?
Yes. Nothing in hoppir limits how many classes you book in a day or in a week, as long as you have the credits for them, or you pay for the extra one outright.
Is there a limit on how often I can go to one studio?
No. There's no per-studio visit cap on any membership and there's no plan to add one; we would rather members booked and studios filled. A studio that wants to slow things down has its own lever: it sets the credit price of every class it lists, and can change it whenever it likes.
Who's teaching?
Every class names its instructor, and tapping through gives you their bio. Studios carry a star rating and written reviews too, left by members who have actually been to a class there, so a studio only shows a rating once enough members have written one.
What if the studio cancels the class?
Your credits come back in full. The 24-hour rule is about you cancelling, not the studio. If a studio calls a class off you're not out of pocket for it.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancel from your bookings more than 24 hours before the class and your credits come straight back to your wallet. If you paid for that one class instead of using credits, the same 24 hours applies and the payment goes back to the card you used. Cancel later than that, or simply not turn up, and it's spent either way. It's the same 24-hour rule at every studio, and no studio sets its own.
Are the seats I see actually available?
Yes. hoppir shows live seat counts negotiated with each studio, not a placeholder. If a class shows open seats, you can book one.
Check-in
How do I check in at a studio?
You scan, rather than being scanned. There's a printed hoppir stand on the reception counter: open your booking, tap Check in, and point your camera at it, or type the short code printed on the stand. Your screen goes green with your class on it, and that green screen is what you show the studio as you walk in. Check-in opens an hour before the class starts and stays open until an hour after it ends. If a studio has no stand to hand, show your own booking code and someone at the desk types it in.
Do I have to be at the studio to check in?
Yes. Check-in only works once you're at the door, usually within about 250 m of it, which is why studios drop their map pin on the entrance itself rather than on the building. hoppir works out how far away you are and keeps only that distance: your coordinates are never stored.
What if I'm running late?
Check in anyway. The window stays open until an hour after the class ends, so arriving late still puts you on the studio's register. Checking in is a register rather than a payment step, so it doesn't change what you were charged or what the studio is paid.
What if the QR won't scan?
Type the short code printed on the same stand. If there's no stand at all, your booking carries its own eight-character code. Show that and someone at the desk types it in. The letters and digits it uses are picked to be unmistakable when read aloud.
Payments & account
Can I book one class without a membership?
Yes. Every class carries both prices, and the Book button asks which you want to use: credits from your membership, or paying for that one class by card or Apple Pay. A membership works out cheaper per class if you train most weeks; paying class by class needs no membership at all.
How do I pay?
By card or Apple Pay, through a secure local payment provider. You only need to sign in when you're ready to buy or book.
Do I need an account to look around?
No. hoppir opens straight onto the map with no sign-up wall: studios, classes, times and both prices, all of it before you tell us anything. You sign in when you want to book, take a membership, leave a review or start a support thread, and there's no password to invent: Apple, Google, or a six-digit code we email you. Signing in keeps everything you had while you were browsing.
Is there a joining fee or lock-in?
No joining fee and no fixed term. A membership can be cancelled whenever you like and runs to the end of the month you've paid for, and paying per class commits you to nothing at all.
How do I get help?
There's a support thread on your account screen in the app, and a person answers it. There's a searchable set of answers in there too, for the things you'd rather not wait for. You can also email us; the address is on the contact page.
What does a studio see about me?
Your booking and your check-in code, and that's it. A studio never sees your email address, your phone number, your credit balance, or where else in the city you train. Enough to run the class, and nothing they didn't need.
Is hoppir on Android?
hoppir launches on iPhone first, built natively for iOS. Leave your email and we'll let you know the moment Android is ready.
Are there any on-demand or streamed classes?
No, and that's on purpose. hoppir is only for real, in-person classes at real studios. It's what keeps the pass simple and the prices honest.
Studios & city
Which studios are on hoppir?
We're opening with a hand-picked set of anchor studios across yoga, pilates, reformer, sauna, gym and spin, and we're signing more while we build. Once we're live, the map in the app is always the live list.
What disciplines are actually on hoppir?
Six groups on the map: yoga, pilates, reformer, sauna, gym and spin, with seventeen disciplines inside them. Barre, boxing, HIIT, CrossFit, personal training, dance, climbing, martial arts, swimming, running and mobility all sit inside one of the six. Filtering by six is a better way to ask what you're in the mood for than scrolling seventeen, and the class itself always names what it is.
Can I see a class before I install the app?
Yes. Anyone can send you a class link and it opens a page with the real class on it: the studio, the time, who's teaching, the live seat count and both prices. If you already have hoppir, an “Open in hoppir” button on that page hands the class to the app.
Which cities do you cover?
hoppir starts in Cape Town. It's built for this city first: the studios, the neighbourhoods, the rhythm. More cities will follow once Cape Town is humming.
I run a studio. How do I join?
Head to the For studios page and apply. You keep your own schedule, set your seat allotment, and get paid for every booking, with a simple portal to manage it all.
Running a studio? These are yours.
What hoppir charges and when you are paid, how your schedule gets on and how many seats you release, what your roster shows you about a member, and what happens between applying and going live.
The money, the schedule, the door, and going live.
The money
What does hoppir charge?
A flat 20% of the credit value of the class, and nothing else. A class you price at 25 credits is listed to members at R250 and pays you R200. There is no listing fee, no monthly fee and no cost to apply, and the 20% is the same for every studio on hoppir, published rather than negotiated one studio at a time. hoppir is not currently a VAT vendor; if that changes the fee becomes 20% plus VAT, which is 23% including VAT at today's rate, on 30 days' notice.
When do I get paid?
A month runs on the calendar in South African time and closes on its last day. Until it closes, Money in the portal shows you a running total rather than a final one. We cut your statement in the first days of the month after, and we pay against that statement by the 7th in a single bank transfer. The payment date and the reference appear on Money against the month they settle, so you can tie a deposit in your bank to a month on hoppir without asking anyone.
What happens if a member cancels late or does not turn up?
More than 24 hours before the class a member can cancel: they get their credits or their payment back, the seat goes back on sale, and that booking pays you nothing. Inside those 24 hours, or if they simply do not arrive, the seat stays yours and pays you exactly what an attendance would have. It is the same 24-hour rule at every studio on hoppir and no studio sets its own. It does not depend on anyone being checked in either: check-in is your register, not a condition of being paid.
What do I actually get on a statement?
Every booking that earned money, itemised, with a CSV export you can reconcile line by line against your own roster. Once a statement is cut nothing comes off it again: if we refund a member after that point we absorb it, and what you are paid does not move.
Is the statement a tax invoice?
No, and the portal says so where you read it: it is a remittance summary, not a tax invoice. VAT treatment is still being finalised with our accountants and will appear on Money once it is. Attendance is shown on the same screen but flagged for what it is, a data-quality measure rather than a payment input.
Who at my studio can see the money?
The owner, and only the owner. Money is the one screen in the portal a manager cannot open, and that is enforced on the server rather than by hiding a menu item.
Your schedule and seats
How do my classes get onto hoppir?
Through the system you already run, or by hand if you would rather. Share a Google Calendar with us, hand us a feed your system already publishes, paste the link to your own public schedule page, connect Glofox, or export the calendar link each of your instructors already has in the Mindbody Business app. If you run nothing at all, and in Cape Town that is the largest group of studios there is, put your week into the portal and we will put your first schedule up with you.
Does a connection keep itself going on its own?
A connection does. It re-reads through the day, twice an hour for most of them, and it keeps doing that without you thinking about it. A week you typed in by hand does not: its sale horizon moves forward when someone opens Add classes or presses publish, and at no other time. So if you are pasting rather than connecting, the week is yours to extend, and the portal tells you when it is running out.
How should I price a class in credits?
At what that class costs to book with you anywhere else. Take your own drop-in or online price, put it in credits at R10 a credit, and round down where it falls between two. We are not asking you to undercut your own door, and you should not: members compare, and a class that costs more on hoppir than at your own counter does not get booked. Most classes in the city land between 20 and 30 credits, and that band is offered as a second opinion on your number rather than as the number.
How many seats do I have to release?
As many or as few as you like, class by class, and you can change it whenever you want. The field is called Seats for hoppir, and it is the most hoppir will ever sell in that class rather than how many the room holds. We stop selling at your number, so the rest of the room stays yours for your own members, and where your own system tells us what is left we sell fewer still. Lowering it stops the next sale rather than undoing one, so seats already booked stay booked.
What happens when I change a class?
It depends on what you connected, and on whether anyone has booked. A feed or a calendar is the source of truth, so it recomputes each class from your seat pledge on every read, and a seat count you edited by hand on one class will be put back. A booking page publishes what it reads: a time, a teacher or a seat change on a class nobody has booked goes live on its own, up or down, while the same change on a class someone has booked is held for a person, because those seats are a pledge somebody has already sold against. A class that has gone from your page is only withdrawn after two complete reads in a row say so, and never while a member is booked on it. Nothing on your page can sell more seats than you released to hoppir, whatever number is printed on it. Everything a read changed is listed as Changed by sync on your Schedule for seven days with an undo beside each one, and Hold every change for me, on your Add classes card, puts the whole lot back into a queue if you would rather see it first.
Can anything go on sale without me seeing it?
No. A first read gives you a queue rather than inventory, and the portal says the classes are waiting for your review rather than telling you they are up. You look at what came across, you approve it, and then you publish. Publishing goes in one batch with a single undo button beside it, and that undo refuses to touch anything already booked, waitlisted or started. A class hoppir has never seen arrives that way every time, on the first read and six months in: it is only a change to a class you already have on hoppir that a booking page settles for you, and it settles it by whether anybody has booked.
How far ahead do my classes sell?
Between one and twelve weeks, and you choose. A connection carries the horizon forward on its own. A pasted week moves forward when you open Add classes or press publish.
Members and check-in
What do I see about a member who books?
The booking and the check-in code that goes with it, which is what you need to run the class. Deliberately not their email address, not their phone number, not their credit balance, and not where else in the city they train. Members on hoppir are anonymous to studios by design, and the roster leads with the code rather than with a person.
How does check-in actually work?
The member scans you, not the other way round. A printed hoppir stand sits on your reception counter; they open their booking, tap Check in, point their own camera at the stand, and show your desk the green screen it produces. There is no hardware to buy, no app for your team and no scanner. Attendance is marked in the portal afterwards with one tap, either one member or a whole class at once.
Who pays for the stand?
We do, all of it. We make the stand, we pay for it and we ship it, one per venue, ordered the moment the venue exists in the system. Nobody at your studio has to order it, print it, approve artwork or chase a courier. We do not put a delivery date on it, because we would rather not promise a day we cannot keep.
What if the stand has not arrived yet?
Check-in works anyway, and it has worked since the moment your venue existed. Every booking carries its own short code, so a member shows you that and someone at your desk types it in. The stand makes it quicker at a busy counter; it is not what makes it possible.
How do waitlists work from my side?
They fill themselves. When a member cancels more than 24 hours out, the seat goes to the first person on the list who has the credits for it and is booked for them there and then, with nothing for them to accept and nothing for you to do. So a cancellation you would have eaten turns back into a booking, and your roster is right without anyone touching it.
Can one member come as often as they like?
Yes. Nothing on hoppir counts how many times a member visits one studio, on any membership, and there is no plan to add a cap. If you want to slow the pace of a particular class, the lever is the same one you already have: the credit price you set on it, which you can change whenever you like.
Going live and your team
How do I apply, and what does it cost?
Nothing, and it is five short steps: your studio, where you are, your details, how you take bookings today, and a last look before you send. One of those steps asks you to drop a pin on your front door rather than on your building, because that pin is what members navigate to and what check-in measures against. An email lands straight away to say we have it, so you have something outside the tab you filled in. Then a person reads the application, and we aim to get back to every one within 24 hours. That reply is the only turnaround we put a number on.
What happens after you say yes?
A short setup in the portal, six steps in the order they matter: pin your front door, add who teaches, get your classes on, tell us how to reach you, give us the business behind the studio, and tell us where to pay you. We will load your first schedule with you rather than leave you typing a term of classes in one at a time.
What does going live mean, and can members see me before it?
Members see nothing at all until hoppir switches you on. Going live is a separate, deliberate act at our end, and it is where your commercial terms are set. That is why there is nothing to lose by putting your whole week in during setup: the fuller your schedule is on the day we switch you on, the more your first members find. We do not put a date on it, because it is a person's decision at our end rather than a queue you are standing in.
Who else at my studio can have a login?
Anyone you want, at one of three levels, and the portal describes them in its own words. Owner: everything, including money and who is on the team. Manager: the schedule, rosters, and front-desk staff, but not money. Front desk: rosters and attendance, nothing else. Signing in is a magic link rather than a password. Adding an instructor to your roster does not create a login for them, so name everyone who teaches and invite only the people who need to get in.
Where do I get help once I am running?
There is a support thread in the portal under Help, you can put up to three pictures in a conversation, and a person answers it. It is the same place to ask about a booking, a payout, a class that came across wrong, or anything you would otherwise have to guess at.
The whole thing at length, from the application to the first payout, with what each booking system needs: how hoppir works for studios, step by step. Or start on the studio page.
Still stuck?
Give us a shout at support@hoppir.app and a person will come back to you. Once you have hoppir there is a support thread on your account screen too, with a searchable set of answers behind it.
The whole city’s your gym.
Leave your email and we’ll tell you the day hoppir opens in Cape Town. One membership whose unused credits roll over for a month, or no membership at all, and just pay for the one class.
